To London yesterday for Fisher v Beckenham Town. Highlights of the day were : Channel 4 on the clubhouse's big screen showing Number Ones of the Noughties, including Leona Lewis looking at her loveliest in the video for Bleeding Love; the performances of Chan Quan on the wing and defender George Kendall; and a very promising display from Mike Jones, our new on-loan midfielder from Bromley.
Lowlights were the four goals Beckenham scored without reply.
By the time I reached Victoria after the game I had a serious case of gut rot. Maybe it was the Greek yogurt I'd had for breakfast, which was the end of a pot that had been open since Boxing Day, or maybe it was just my digestive system reacting after nine solid days' overindulgence on festive goodies. Whatever it was, it was enough to make me abandon any thoughts of getting something to eat, or even having one last Christmas Black Forest hot chocolate at Costa.
On the train back a QPR fan spotted my Fisher shirt and reminisced about the time when we were in the Conference South with Wayne Burnett as manager, until he got off at East Croydon. After an hour or so of the journey my stomach finally settled.
Once home, straight to bed in preparation for this morning's return to rising at 4.30...
First day back wasn't too bad. Our new manager Maria started today, with Melissa showing her the ropes most of the day, and my replacement Tracy also started, sitting next to me in Demelza's old desk. They both seem pretty nice. I spent most of the day filing paper records in bundles - plenty of humping boxes in and out of cupboards involved, but the time seemed to go fairly quick.
