So, back to normal. Back to driving into work to the sound of Alan Brazil's Sports Breakfast, back to calling into a deserted Co-op at 6.15 en route for a two-pint bottle of milk, back to the office.

Within the first half-hour both Simon and Sue handed out generous helpings of leftover Christmas chocolates. There was a delay before the computer systems were ready to go, so I made a start on sticking updated pages over the old ones in my new guidebooks - it was only after I'd already stuck most of them on that I spotted many of the new pages were identical to the old ones. I remarked as much to Demelza, who said she'd noticed and had only stuck on the ones that were different. Doh.

As Lynn and I waited for Rosemary to load more paper into the printer so our jobs would get printed, we talked about how it was a culture shock being back at the grindstone again - during the 12-day break we'd got used to being away. I wondered whether people who had to work between Christmas and New Year got the better deal in a way, but we ended up all agreeing it had been good to have the long break.

Late in the morning Sue and I stuck the new year planner on the wall, and Chris began the scramble to write all our already booked leave on it. Must have inadvertently leaned too close to the newly-inked holiday dibs, as a bit later Louise and Tanya pointed out a massive felt tip mark on my jumper.
