Jul. 30th, 2010 08:30 pmAfter a request from Demelza yesterday, I brought my iPod to the office this morning to enable us to play a game she suggested, Hum The Tune. The idea is someone listens to a song on their iPod and hums the tune, and people have to guess the title and the artist - one point for either, with a bonus third for getting both. So during a quiet period, when Demelza, as she is wont to do on Fridays, announced that she was bored, I asked if we should play Hum The Tune and she agreed.
I didn't put the iPod on shuffle as I have quite a bit of very obscure stuff on there; to start, I picked Kylie Minogue's All The Lovers. Nobody got it before the instrumental break, during which Demelza asked "Is it a modern one?"
"It's in the charts at the moment."
As the lovely Miss Minogue reached the final chorus and my humming rose to a glorious crescendo, Demelza excitedly pointed and said "I've got it!...It's Kylie Minogue!" She didn't quite get the title, guessing at "All The Others". I think my humming really got on Bev's nerves, though; when Demelza said "Next one," Bev added "Can this be the last one? I can't concentrate."
I went for Whole Again by Atomic Kitten; Demelza got it during the final verse. As I was humming the closing chorus Bev came over and whispered to me to stop as our HEO was on her way round...
Went to give blood at the St Mary's Parish Centre this evening. Again my first pin-prick sample floated instead of sinking, meaning I had to have a second sample taken from my arm. Once more my haemoglobin was at the only-just-acceptable level of 137. With Pete the venepuncturist overseeing, though, my actual donation went like a dream, thanks in part to Pete's advice to keep closing my hand tight for six seconds then relaxing for six seconds (I was counting with Missisippis in my head half the time until I spotted the clock on the wall with a second hand) and to clench and unclench my upper leg muscles along with my hand each time.
After a quick rest with an orange squash and a packet of Walkers ready salted, moseyed on to the village chippy, but there was a longish queue out into the street so gave it a miss.
