With the Great Desk Shift over the weekend, today we had to pile the clobber from our desk tops into crates - me included after all; Elaine came round about 9 am and informed Simon and me that we had to crate up our stuff rather than just leaving it on neighbouring desks, or it might go missing. Meanwhile it was Debbie's birthday; she was particularly impressed with one saucy card she received, designed by one Amanda Lovenseat. Debbie loved that name and said she might consider changing hers to that. "It'd suit you," I called over to her.

At the bus station it was looking like the 12.35 82 had been cancelled yet again, but a miracle happened. A yellow-jacketed member of First staff actually came out at 12.40 and told us the 82 was just coming, having been held up in a traffic jam on the A32 (that road is a major reason I'm counting the days till I leave Gosport).

I'm happy enough with Holland's group at the World Cup - Denmark, Japan and Cameroon - and I do believe we can win it. But I fervently hope that we do win the group, because if we come second we'd probably get Italy in the knockout, then if we got past the Azzurri, Spain would likely await us in the quarters. While winning the group would lead us to a probable quarter-final with Brazil or Portugal, I'd find either of them a less daunting prospect than the Spanish.

So here's hoping the Oranje start the World Cup as they started Euro 2008, but don't run out of juice this time. Hup Holland Hup!
