Jul. 29th, 2009 08:10 pmHawks friendly at Bognor last night. The clubhouse, alas, still hasn't reopened after last year's fire - rebuilding work's still in progress - but the lovely in-ground chippy behind the goal is still there and still dispensing excellent scran.
Most of the Hawk hardcore were there, except Malc who's on his hols. The game was a bit of a non-event although Muzzy Teryaki came close to goal several times, only to be constantly frustrated by the Bognor defence, and trialist Jonny Sutton, who came on as sub just after the break, looks an exciting prospect. Most of the entertainment came from Ade exchanging banter with the Bognor captain Michael Birmingham over his departure from Gosport Borough, and from Ade dealing with a bunch of noisy young chav Millwall fans in his best country squire impression, throughout the second half.
Oh, and Bognor nicked a winner in the closing minute through, of all people, Charlie Oatway Jr. The goal immediately provoked a murmured chorus of "It's only a friendly" from several of the Hawk faithful, but after that showing I'm not at all bothered that I can't make the final friendly at Eastbourne on Saturday. Like Sarah before me, my mood is "Bollocks to football, I'm off to the theatre."
Because of my late night out I started at nine this morning and worked on till six. That meant I went for a late lunch, so by the time I arrived in the canteen the roast pork with apple sauce was finished :( Plenty of roast beef and Yorkshire though. At about 2.45 I finished the last of the week's death coding, having only had half a dozen corrections today from Simon and Chris :) I spent the next two and a half hours copying the last of the annotations from Old Faithful into my new old book. Glad that's over. I was alone in the office for the final hour, but had had the foresight to get some postcode work from Liz before she left.
