Jul. 27th, 2009 06:35 pmArrived at the office first thing to find none of the applications on my PC were loading. Mercifully, it soon became clear that everyone was having the same problem. I still had quite a lot of copying to do from Old Faithful into my new ailments book (well, my new old one) so that kept me busy while the ladies chatted about the latest celebrity gossip and Chris's holiday. Meanwhile, Demelza offered round a packet of long thin cylindrical French biscuits - "lethally moreish," she called them - and Chris brought round some Tunnock's teacakes.
Sue made a phone call to someone around nine and learned the whole system for much of the building was down and that they were working on it but didn't expect anything before ten. 10 am came and went, still nada. Then at 10.25 an announcement came over the tannoy to say IT were working on the problem and hoped to have it fixed around 10.30, so "please do not call the helpdesk".
Just after half past Demelza asked if I had access yet, so I switched on my PC and successfully logged in. Back to coding causes of death for the rest of the day.
