May. 28th, 2009 10:08 pmTo Fareham this morning for my check-up with the Westleigh Dental Practice. The dentist gave me a clean bill of health; as a newbie with plenty of fillings, I had to have X rays (at a cost of £15 on top of the £26 for the check-up) but they showed good news - no problems with my teeth or my gums. "You've been brushing well," he said, and that was it for the next six months.
Got through to a willing interviewee with my first call of the shift, but was interrupted by Val coming over and writing me a note saying to ask the guy if we could ring him back and come off the call. There was a technical fault with the scheduler, and it couldn't be fixed till I came out of the case and logged off. Fortunately the bloke was OK with me calling him back a few minutes later and completed the survey.
Still had several people remarking to me about my imminent move - Sue #3 said how much I'd miss her (true; I promised we'd stay in touch via Facebook) and Julieann remarked how much she'd miss me (awww). I also had an e-mail inviting me to come up to my new department and meet the team next Thursday.
But the story of today was Val, whose last day it was - after 22 years in the telephone unit she's also going elsewhere within the office. Val had been one of my supervisors right from when I joined five years ago. She, Jane and Sharon staged lots of mock crying with a kitchen roll, Val opened "So much for surprise, I've had two people ask me when the meeting was" (and Jane, after saying 'naming no names', outed the guilty parties) then Val made a nice little thanks/farewell speech and Sharon said a few heartfelt words about how much she'd helped her as she handed her her gift.
Me next.
