May. 7th, 2009 11:58 pmDriving lesson this morning. Peter started by taking me through roundabout drills, then through 45 minutes of open road driving kept calling me for being slow on the gear changes. When he said during our halfway break that the couple of rollbacks I'd had had come from not having the clutch at the bite, I confessed that for the last two months I've been unable to feel or sense when the clutch has been at the bite and I've been winging it on guesswork. Peter said he wished I'd said that two months ago and that explained where I've been falling over on manoeuvres a lot of the time. He got me raising my clutch to the bite before we moved off, getting me to keep alert to the change in feel and engine sound. Things went better from then on, and, for the first time focusing on keeping my clutch still, I even did a half decent reverse round a corner.
Arrived on the telephone unit floor early this afternoon to see Sue #5. As soon as I went over to her she asked excitedly if I'd checked my email yet. I said no, so she showed me something on her PC screen :
I'm through to the interview stage for the full time post! *airhorn*
The good news was tempered by Sue revealing that she will be leaving us to move to a post in another department next month. Of course I wish her the very best, and we'll still see each other around the building, but I'll be sorry to no longer have her as my line manager. She's been wonderful to me and offered me true much needed support that I've not had from anyone else there for years. With her moving on from the TU, more than ever I feel it's time for me to move on too. Keep 'em crossed for me please...
