Apr. 12th, 2009 08:06 pmDemolished my Mars Easter egg first thing this morning just before setting off for Westleigh Park. Sally had a swelling and colouration of her lower lip, brought on by her allergy to cream soda, while Jenna F had a beautiful black eye from colliding with Jo in Thursday's match - when they met they showed each other their blemishes and compared them. Michelle and I travelled with Dick in Trevor's posh new motor - "Nice to be travelling in luxury!" Michelle said approvingly.
The drive to Henley was trouble-free. At the ground we met up with the happy campers, who all made it safely despite some people's misgivings :) The only soft drink on offer in the clubhouse before the match was Diet Coke, so a couple of those had to do (my funds wouldn't run to a beer) over a chat with Rob, Christine and Sarah.
The match was, again, not a classic. We had a wordy ref today; whenever he waved play on he'd give a lengthy explanation like "There was no malice in that challenge," and during the second half, when a Henley fan shouted his disagreement with one of his decisions, the ref came over and had some strong words with him. It has to be said that the ref had a bit of a shocker, carding one Henley girl for a first foul while letting one of her team-mates commit cynical fouls and gob off with never anything more than a talking-to. Early in the match Sally had an anapylaptic shock, a by-product of her allergic inflammation, and had to come off; then twenty minutes in Alex, maybe the worse for wear from partying on the camping trip, came off feeling groggy. Despite using up two substitutes so early, and their below par performance, the Hawk girls still came out with three much needed points, Jodie scoring both in our 2-1 win. I watched with Rob, Christine and Sarah, who shared their bunch of bananas with me at half time.
It was Billie's birthday, so after the match Becky presented her with a football-pitch cake and we all sang Happy Birthday To You. Once the cake had all been eaten we wended our way home. Alex didn't feel up to going back to the camp site, so she squeezed into Trevor's back seat with me and Michelle. With the stray coats and bags in the back with us, we all had terrible trouble getting into comfortable positions, though the two girls managed to sleep for a fair bit of the journey. At Westleigh Park Dick gave me a lift to Havant station.
