Feb. 3rd, 2009 04:07 pmAt the family history course we were all told to surf on to Ancestry then left to our own devices, so I spent the morning adding distant cousins that the site found on census returns and other people's trees. I also traced one of my direct lines back to 1762. Looked for the 1901 Irish census to locate my great-grandfather's parents' names and street of residence, but there's a slight technical hitch : it isn't online yet. The National Archives of Ireland have decided to put the 1911 census online first, then do 1901 in the next couple of years. My great-grandad was from the north, but the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland doesn't put census results online, though people are welcome to come in person and see the records on microfilm. So it's either a two year wait for the 1901 returns to go online, or a trip to Belfast.
Driving lesson this afternoon. So-so. I did a decent turn in the road, apart from looking out of the right-side front door window instead of the back door one during the right-reverse leg, but then made several slips like once forgetting to drop down to first when waiting at a junction, prompting Peter to ask if I had anything on my mind; I explained I'd had a stressful day yesterday. I think that's why he spared me parallel parking. Open road driving not too bad, but Peter said my judgement at whether to come out of junctions or wait needs work (he had to use his controls to stop me coming out in front of an oncoming cyclist whom I'd thought was going slower than he was) and I had to pull forward and correct my position on the bay park - at first I was completely covering the right-hand line.
Just put on my A Song For Eurotrash CD for the first time in a while. Alas, one of my favourite tracks - La La La (He Gives Me Love) by St Etienne - is now unplayable. Arsebiscuits.
