The Christmas Eve shift was fairly painless, I was busy pretty much the whole time, and there were plenty of nibbles still on the table from the evening before :)

Now for the major news : I have a second job.

The guy who operates the live non-league football scores website posted on Facebook on Christmas Eve morning to say he is emigrating so needs two people to take on the job of keeping the site updated on Saturday afternoons and one evening every week. It's £80 a week, and I'm not in a position to turn down the opportunity of an extra £320 in my bin every month, so I rang him during a coffee break to let him know I was interested. He's going to ring me tomorrow afternoon to go over what's involved.

It's going to be a wrench no longer attending Havant & Waterlooville matches, apart from the odd Monday night game when I'm off duty, but as much as I love the Hawks, they're not going to get my credit card bill paid. And at least I'll be earning for doing something I love, and I'll still be watching the women on Sundays.

Accommodating my new job means reshuffling my shifts in my existing one. Fortunately Pat was in on Christmas Eve and she had no trouble with me changing my evening shift to Thursday. Initially I was going to go to Tuesday mornings, leaving Wednesday as my day off as I've booked in for driving lessons on Wednesdays, but that would have left Paula and me with no coinciding shifts, and neither of us wanted that, so I opted for Wednesday mornings with Tuesday as my day off, then had a devil of a job trying to get hold of Peter to reschedule my driving lessons. Finally I got him in when I phoned from the bus stop and he said Tuesday daytime lessons wouldn't be a problem.

Christmas Day was quiet. Got money in a card from the parents (who knew my finances needed a fillip), and a Ramones best-of CD from Katherine (who knew the story of what happened to my last one). Spent the day watching telly and getting absolutely stuffed on nibbles.

We've had no internet connection at home for the last three days. My father managed to get an engineer out on Christmas Eve; he appeared to have fixed it, only for the connection to go down again half an hour later and stay down ever since. This morning my dad got it going again simply by switching everything off and back on again, but with my new job I can't afford to risk relying on the home connection, which has been temperamental lately, so thanks the money I got from the parents I'll be taking out a subscription to mobile broadband on the 29th. Bring on the dongle!
