Sep. 8th, 2008 11:55 pmWent down to Chichester to see Calendar Girls at the Festival Theatre. Despite it being Monday night, the place was absolutely full - I only got served at the bar just after the two-minute call was announced. The sell-out was thanks to the Open University-sponsored cheap tickets for this first week of the run, the popularity of the film (though, like me, the elderly couple next to me hadn't seen the film) and, most of all, the stellar cast - Lynda Bellingham, Patricia Hodge, Siân Phillips, Gaynor Faye, Julia Hills and Elaine C. Smith played the WI 'calendar girls', with Brigit Forsyth as their strait-laced branch president.
With that ensemble the show was never going to be anything other than fantastic. All the cast performed marvellously, and the script was very funny with plenty of poignant moments. Superb night's entertainment.
