Dec. 22nd, 2006 03:30 pmLast shift before Christmas. Quite a pleasant one, didn't speak to any nasty so-and-sos, and the nibbles table, with a big bunch of grapes, a bowl of Twiglets and a box of chocolate biscuits, allowed me to keep a good balance between healthy and indulgent. After many minutes of getting answering machines or unanswered ringing tones, at 2.23 I got a lady who, when I said I was just calling to arrange a convenient time, said "We can do it now if you want." Ordinarily, I'd have taken her up on her offer - I never like to turn down a willing respondent, and I'd have picked up an extra half-hour's pay - but today me ma was giving me a lift home and I didn't think she'd be too happy sitting outside in the car for half an hour waiting for me, so, with a heavy heart, I told the lady we were just about to close. Thankfully, she agreed to us calling her on the evening of the 28th.
And then I did my payclaim, packed up my stuff and said 'Goodbye, Happy Christmas' to everyone on my way out. I'm a free man ... for four days.
