On my bedside table this morning lay £9.03, consisting of a £2 coin, three 50ps and the rest in loose change. That represented all my disposable funds for today, tomorrow and Thursday. (The loose change was mostly accumulated by me over the course of the month, but £2 in small silver was courtesy of my mother, who on Sunday morning had loads of small silver and nothing else, so prevailed upon me to swap my two £1 coins so she wouldn't have to put a load of loose change in the plate.)

But I needed to increase that to £10 to see me safely through the next two days at work, with bus fares, the absolutely essential daily coffee or Coke, and it being my turn to buy a copy of The News. Being overdrawn to the tune of £495.20, drawing the minimum £10 from a cash machine wouldn't be possible unless I made a payment into my account to take the red figures under £490.

So I wandered down to the High Street with £9.03 mostly in loose change weighing down my pocket, and paid the lot into the bank. Then it was a case of sitting at home until 4.30 - so the withdrawal won't show up on my statement until tomorrow, maybe taking a few pence off my next debit interest payment - then strolling down to Asda to draw a tenner from the machine.

3 days to pay day and it can't come soon enough.

Ah well, there's football on the telly tonight and some of my father's cheap French beers in the fridge...

I think quite a few people are trying to get by on very little until the next pay cheque. I still have quite a balance on my credit card and just enough money in my bank account to cover bills. By the way, I don't like British coin. It's so heavy and bulky.
