We're still in lockdown so it's the first year I've been unable to travel to London to lay flowers for Sarah. Damn virus.

Had to settle for laying a single red rose on her Millennium brick on Gosport promenade.

Miss your beautiful heart babe. Goodnight my sweet princess.

You know, even after all these years I've never gotten to know the actual story of Sarah, how you met, etc. I am not trying to pry but if you've got an old post that explains it perhaps I could read it sometime. Anyway, it's sad that you could not go in person to leave your flowers this year.

I discovered Sarah when I read a newspaper interview with her in January 1995, at the time her debut play Blasted was causing controversy in the UK media. I was going through a difficult patch at the time, and Sarah and the ethos of her work seemed to speak directly to me. She was right up my street.

I attended her next play Phaedra's Love the following year and loved it. At the end of the play I saw her, went over and introduced myself. We hit it off from the start.

The last time we met was in October 1998 at the London run of her play Crave. She'd written the emotions of her broken affair out so well in that play, and she was so warm and cheerful when we chatted, that I was sure she was over her heartache and on the up. Her final episode and death just 3-4 months later was an absolute shock.
