eiffel_71We got a nice twenty-minute delay to the start of work this morning, thanks to a power cut. When we got the All Clear to start, with a warning that only certain machines were working, I booted up my usual computer, which worked OK, and was ready to plunge into the call scheduler when I checked my phone. Silence. I tried taking the lead out and putting it back in, and pressing the buttons up and down, but couldn't get a cheep out of it. Taking this to be a by-product of the power cut, I moved to a free booth in another row. Again that computer was fine, but again the phone was as dead as a dodo. Christine #2 was passing, so I told her; after she'd asked if the mute button was off (it was), she asked if I'd tried putting the handset on and off the cradle. I put the handset on, lifted it off and got dialling tone. I smiled and nodded to Christine, and she said sometimes the phones go funny like that and that was probably all that was wrong with the other one.
In between calls I caught the tail of a conversation between Sarah #4, Amanda and Angie. They were having a laugh at something one of them had said during a call, and then Sarah said someone "just had a dirty mind". "What's that?" I asked, "someone having phone sex with respondents?" The girls all fell about, Sarah said "Not me! Angie might be," then she explained that Angie had laughed in a nudge-nudge way at Sarah asking a respondent "Your wife doesn't do it, then?"
Our nibbles table consisted entirely of two large cakes, walnut and lemon drizzle, cut into squares. They were very tasty, but I couldn't help an envious glance at the other unit's table, which had chocolate raisins and dry roasted peanuts...
