Night Train

Went to see Starlight Express at the MK Theatre last night. Was sat next to two friendly, chatty elderly ladies who were very keen theatregoers - they raved about Cats which is coming to MK later this year. Sadly one of them came over a little unwell halfway through the first act, had to go outside and didn't come back.
The staging and costumes were all spectacular. Kristofer Harding and Amanda Coutts both gave very good, impassioned performances as Rusty and Pearl, Mykal Rand and Jamie Capewell were brilliant as the flash duo of futuristic Electra and Elvis-esque Greaseball, and Ruthie Stephens was fantastic as Dinah. We were given 3D glasses to wear for the race scenes; announcements of 'Please put on your safety goggles' were followed by spectacular 3D films of the races. Great show.
Rejoice - shopping in Leighton this morning, I found Morrisons are selling SATSUMAS!
This afternoon was Leighton Town's last game of the season, at home to North Greenford United. There appeared to be over 100 there, quite a good turn-out given that both teams' final league positions were already known and those positions were second bottom and third bottom. Iain, the chairman, who hadn't been at Tuesday night's game, came over and said "Welcome back." After a quick chat about the Southern League scene, he asked me whether I saved programmes, and, on being told yes, disappeared into the boardroom and came back with a full set of programmes for all Leighton's games, home and away, since my last visit in November. What a wonderful club. I'll certainly be supporting them properly next season.
Although Tremayne Charles showed some creativity going forward, Leighton had nothing else up front, and conceded one each half. North Greenford's manager Neil Shipperley, formerly a striker with Southampton, Crystal Palace and Barnsley, caused a buzz by coming on as sub with over 20 minutes to go. He's put quite a bit of weight on since his professional playing days, but still has quite some skill. When he joined his team-mates in the box for a corner, I sensed that quite a few Leighton fans, resigned to losing the match anyway, would not have minded if he had scored.
The game ended, and so into the clubhouse for one last pint of IPA and to see the League promotion and relegation news coming in on Final Score.

Sorry I have been a bit M.I.A. lately but I should be here right as rain for awhile longer until the next crisis rears its ugly head. ;)
