Janet's in the clear. This morning Tania announced she'd got her fair share of the Swiss chocolate (she loved it). Meanwhile, today Janet brought in a home-made Rocky Road (very tasty). Carol was in, so I shared the other bar of Swiss choc with her and Louise.
The weather had been quite nice in the morning, so Sarah #2 wore her summer dress and nothing else to the office. At the end of the shift she and I stepped outside - into pouring rain. I didn't have a hat or hood either, so we both made a dash for her car, managing not to get too wet...
I was wanted at the Thorngate for the rehearsal for tomorrow's mayoral installation ceremony, so Sarah dropped me there. The rehearsal began at four, but when I arrived it was barely 3 pm and there was absolutely nothing happening. The bar at the Thorngate is, alas, members only, so I ventured back out into the rain to walk down the road to the Wiltshire Lamb and spent a relaxing 45 minutes with a pint of Hidden Old Sarum, a packet of Nobby's Nuts, the Non-League Paper and 11 of my favourite songs on the juke box.
At the Thorngate the first person I met was Neil, who's to say a few words introducing me tomorrow. It wasn't long before I bumped into him again in the gents, where he told me my mother had e-mailed him saying his script was attached - then forgotten to attach the document to the e-mail! Next to say hello to me was Chris, a town hall official, who started to talk to me about football, so we discussed the fortunes of Havant & Waterlooville, Gosport Borough and FC St Pauli till we got the call for the rehearsal to start. It all went OK, though the incoming Deputy Mayoress was a bit anxious about one stage where she and I have to step out of the way for Lady D'Encloseland to be presented with her civic badge. Ah well, it'll be all right on thenight morning/early afternoon. At the end I was introduced to a couple of ladies from the town hall staff I hadn't met before, and also caught up with Michelle. There was a tiny hitch with my seating plan: one of the incoming Deputy Mayor's guests, who was listed on the information sheet as wanting two dinners, is actually coming on her own, so my mother said she'd invite Woggle to fill the vacancy.
On the way home me ma and I met my cousin Neil (not the same Neil introducing me), who had a tongue-in-cheek grumble at my mother for insisting on holding her informal evening party tomorrow, at the same time as the Champions' League Final. As she and I had had much the same conversation a couple of weeks ago, she was able to tell Neil what had resulted from that discussion : she's going to ask the barmaid to put the football on the big screen without sound.
Back home, my mother failed to get hold of Woggle, so she rang another friend, Sally, whom I get on well with, and she accepted. Result.
