Drove up to Alton for the Hawks Ladies' game with Forest Green. Arrived just before noon and, on beginning to make my way from my car towards the ground entrance, was told by the bar manager "They're not open yet, you're very early." So had to potter around the car park until he was ready to open up. Fortunately hadn't been waiting around long when Dick and some of the girls arrived and he let us all in.
Top notch burger and chips from the tea hatch. My driving put the real ale out of bounds, so went for a couple of cans of Jamaican Grape Soda. When I wandered over to the Forest Green manager to get their team lineup from her, I passed our girls being put through their paces by Leon. As Leon's a Portsmouth fan, on seeing my Reading hat he exclaimed "Don't come near me wearing that hat!" He'd been up to the game yesterday, reckoned Pompey battered Reading for most of the match but once we scored our goals they were out of it, and added that he'd thought of me when it became clear Reading were going to win :)
The Ladies went into this game knowing what we have to do to make the play-offs : three wins from our last four matches. Val sat in the stand with me and said her stomach was going up and down like Tower Bridge. Laura Streeter fired home on eight minutes to calm Val's nerves a little, but it was only when Kay made it 2-0 on the hour that she could really relax. Forest Green kept plugging away all game; their striker Mary-Ann Gittings had looked dangerous all the second half so it was no surprise when she pulled one back with eight minutes remaining.
Enter beautiful Becki, riding to the rescue, making the points safe with a wonder strike from 30 yards out in the 90th minute.
Two from three now, girls...
