The talk in the clubhouse before tonight's match with Weston-super-Mare was of how we'd rise to fifth spot - which is in the play-off zone - if we won 9-0 and Woking failed to win at Maidenhead. Although Weston are already relegated, nobody seriously thought a nine goal victory was on the cards; we all agreed we'd be happy with any win at all.

We certainly got that, Hawks cruising to a 4-0 lead by half-time. When, after the break, Wes Fogden made it five, the Hawk hardcore behind the goal sang "We only need four more"; Steve Walker tapping home the sixth from a goalmouth scramble ten minutes later prompted "We only need three more". There was no further score, and in any case Woking won, but the Hawks' scintillating performance convinced us all that we have a real shot at winning our last two games (to reach the play-offs we need those two wins plus other results going our way) and made tonight's another match to remember. One unfortunate spectator will remember it for the wrong reasons, after a Weston player, following our fifth, kicked the ball away in frustration and hit someone in the crowd to the extent that paramedics had to be called. When we saw the blue lights of the approaching ambulance (we'd scored our sixth by then) the Weston media guy behind me said "I think the ambulance is coming for Weston. They certainly need it." Got to love the gallows humour of the football fan.

Oh man, imagine if you had won 9-0 and W*king had still won! That'd have been terrible! Particularly given it's Stevenage's erstwhile arch-enemies W*king (not to be confused with Japanese deathmatch wrestling promotion W*ING).

Obviously H&W's season, if you do reach play-offs, sounds like it'll finish the opposite way of Tottenham's: wandering around doing nothing until it matters, then pulling your finger out is better than cruising in fourth until it matters, then suddenly doing nothing.

Don't give up on fourth place yet, we need someone - be it yourselves, Villa or even Man City - to break up the cartel.

Last night's result was a great start! As a United fan, I'm backing either Villa or Spurs for 4th place. I'd even rather have Liverpool than city in the Champions League!

Villa seem rather dead in the water at the moment so... COME ON YOU SPURS!*"

*Except when you are playing us, of course ;)!
