Anna of Tharau
Anna of Tharau doth my life enfold;
She is my all, my land and my gold.
Anna of Tharau to me once again
Her love has pledged in pleasure and in pain.
Anna of Tharau, my riches, my land!
Thou, O my soul, my brain and my hand!
What though raging storms about us break?
We shall ride them together for each other's sake.
No sickness, persecution, calamity or pain
Shall prevail to crush or rend us a-twain.
Anna of Tharau, my light and my sun!
My life and yours shall be forever as one.
The palm-tree rises straight and tall,
It bends 'neath the storm, but does not pall.
So shall our love grow mighty and great,
Unbroken by assaults of misfortune and hate.
Anna of Tharau, my riches, my land!
Thou, O my soul, my brain and my hand!
Shouldst thou by evil fate be bann'd
To some distant, desolate and sunless land,
I would follow through forests and over the waves,
Nor fear iron-bars nor hostile knaves.
Anna of Tharau, my light and my sun!
My life and yours shall be forever as one.
