Hawks v Dover - what a cracker! Matt joined my train en route and said he might be able to give me a lift to the Dorchester away match on Tuesday evening. After today's performance, here's hoping.

Hawks played glorious football and won a penalty in the opening minutes. Manny's shot was saved but he scored from the rebound. Late in the first half Wes Fogden was brought down and we got another spot-kick; it looked like a foul to me but the Dover fans loudly voiced their disapproval of the ref's decision. When Manny stepped forward to take this one, several of us wondered why he was getting the privilege after missing the first one; a few of us thought Wes should have been given the opportunity. In the end Manny made no mistake this time. The Dover manager Andy Hessenthaler was sent off for protesting too much - and didn't appear to go quietly when he got to the tunnel and was told he had to go out of sight of the pitch. As Hessenthaler has always been a respected figure in football, as player and manager, many of the Hawks in the stand were surprised to see this aggressive side to him.

Dover pulled one back after the break but Hawks held on for our much needed first home win - against the league leaders. It really doesn't get much better.

Met Lee on the train home. He confessed he'd played his part in winding up the Dover manager - when he entered the tunnel Lee was standing right by it and quipped "Hey Andy, we've got some lovely seats up there in the stand." Hessenthaler hadn't been amused. Lee had the other Blue Square South scores on his phone so we worked out that Hawks have moved up a spot to fourth.

Got to go bone up for the theory test.
