Just heard the sad news that one of my heroines has died.

Though only born in the 70s I'm a lifelong fan of her pop hits from the 60s. In 2001 I went to see the musical about her career, Leader of the Pack, which was an excellent show and featured a new song by her I'd never heard before, Rock of Rages. At the time I was going through a personal crisis. Seeing the show and, especially, hearing that song gave me the spark I needed to write some poetry concerning what I was going through, which was the turning point towards my recovery. Finding an email address for Miss Greenwich I mailed her and told her about why her music meant so much to me and how Rock of Rages had helped me, and asked her to email me the lyrics. Instead she posted me a copy of them, plus a tape of herself singing the song and a signed photo of herself.

Thank you for everything, Ellie. I'll miss you.
