Hawks v St Albans. Gave Steph and Angie their Christmas cards before the match; when I gave Angie hers she straight away took out her HawkSupport raffle tickets. I said I'd got a book; with the effortless skill of a born salesperson she smoothly replied "You can have another one." So I bought a new book. The things I do for love.

For the first half-hour the game was shaping up to be a frustrating one as Robbie Matthews missed a sitter, Steve Walker had the ball in the penalty box (albeit with his back to goal) and passed straight to a Stale Buns player, and JC missed a spot-kick. Our domination was finally rewarded after 35 minutes when Craig Watkins fired home from the edge of the box. Minutes later Walker beat his man and sent over a lovely cross for Gary Holloway to net our second.

During the second half Charlie Henry was surging into the St Albans penalty area with Paul Booth wide open on his right, but Charlie was greedy, tried to take on all the defence himself instead of passing, and lost the ball. Still we continued to have the upper hand and it finished 2-0.

Could this be the beginning of a revival?

Into the clubhouse afterwards to watch the scores coming in (aargh, the Shire crashed 4-1 at home to Cowden) as we waited for the raffle draw. The grand £100 prize was drawn first - Angie's gran won it; cue shouts of 'Fix' (which happened every time a committee member's relative or friend won a prize). Neither I nor any of my family or colleagues won anything. As I said goodbye and Happy Christmas to everyone, Malc said "See you at Bognor" (our Boxing Day game is there) and I replied "See you New Year's Day." I'd let him know before the match that I'm having to cut out the away matches with my credit card bill. On being reminded now, he pointed at me and said "Stay off that credit card."

Got to go watch Harry Hill.
