Hawks Ladies v MK Wanderers at Fort Blockhouse. This time the drinks machine was sold out of caffe latte and I had to settle for hot chocolate, which wasn't bad at all.
MK came into the game pointless and having lost 8-0 at Slough last week. They also arrived without a physio - Lisa had to tend to their injured players as well as ours. Our girls handed them another eight goal drubbing, but the story of the day was Laura scoring a hat trick. As our sweeper, she doesn't get on the scoresheet much, but today she got her foot or head on the end of three corners, and every time the ball hit the back of the net. Jo groaned at every goal of Laura's and slow-handclapped her third : she and Laura have an annual bet of one drink on which of them will score more goals, and before today Jo had been 2-0 up so Laura's now taken the lead! The substitutes and injured players on the sideline, when I obliged each time they asked everyone in general "What was the time of that goal/incident?" gave me good-natured ribbing for having a watch that's radio-controlled by the GMT clock.
The girls are going to hold an 'X Factor' fund-raising night; the tickets go on sale from Thursday but I won't see them again between now and the night, so I paid Lisa my money up front this afternoon. Lisa assures me that I am allowed to be a spectator, but Telé said "You have to sing." I assured her that she really does not want to hear my attempts at singing, but she was undeterred.
After the match I said my goodbyes to the girls and coaching staff, adding "Good luck next week, see you in a fortnight."
"Where are you next week?" Rob asked. "Brentford game!" I replied.
"You're watching the men?" Rob pretended to be outraged, and Jenna F stood pouting with her arms bent outward and her hands on her hips. I chucked in another "good luck" as I went.
The Brazilian Grand Prix - what a hell of a race. What can I say but WELL DONE LEWIS!!! I wished I had a bottle of champers to crack open - but a St Peter's Ruby Red Ale made a decent substitute.
