Arrived in the unit this morning to find Paula and I had been taken off the list to go to the Classi & Methods forum. I went straight up to the supervisors to query this and was told by Ali "You're not going this morning. You're going on the phones."
I replied that I thought everyone was supposed to go to Classi & Methods.
"Are you not in tomorrow?"
"No." I had in fact self swapped from tomorrow to today.
"Are you not in tonight?" Sue #6 chipped in.
"I don't work doubles." At that point poor old Sue, who'd been trying to get a word in, finally got to thank me for doing the carousels last night. Then Jenny came in with "Are you working tomorrow night?"
"No."
They conceded that I'd have to go to Classi & Methods forum this morning after all. Poor old Paula wasn't so lucky; she'd been told she'd have to go on the phones today and to the forum tomorrow, which she was well cheesed off about.
The forum was OK. We just had to listen to Margaret doing a dummy interview with Val pretending to be a respondent, and each fill in one of the assessment forms that the supervisors do on us when we get monitored. Margaret, of course, made lots of deliberate mistakes for us to spot. Next they gave us a run-through of the interview for us all to point out where Margaret went wrong, then we had a coffee break and finished with a quick refresher talk about Classification.
Nice way of getting out of the unit for two and a half hours. From there it was back on the phones. Mercifully, with the sneezy and coughy aggravation my cold continued to give me, the selector ran out of new cases at 1.49 so we spent the rest of the shift taking a test glance at the new quarter's questions or doing a quiz. Poor old Paula really was thoroughly radged off today, and running into hurdles over a couple of positions she's applied for didn't help her mood. While Jane and I exhorted her to go to an interview she's been invited for, she observed "I want to make lots of money and sit around doing nothing."
Deadpan, I asked "Have you considered marrying a Premiership footballer?"
"I have, but I'm too old."
"You don't look it." Cue catcalls from Jane and the rest about my being a 'smoothie'.
Driving lesson after work. Not too bad. The only things Peter picked up on were my still over-steering, not putting enough brake on approaching junctions, and not speeding up quick enough coming out of turns. A lot better than two weeks ago, and that'll do me fine right now.
Walked over after dinner to drop a Congratulations card into Katherine and Mike's letterbox, then home for CFR Cluj v Chelsea. Kudos to Cluj getting a draw.
