Went for an informal chat with a lady called Val about a full-time vacancy within another department of my office. She felt obliged to point out early on that there's just the one post and an awful lot of people have shown an interest (I knew one of them was my good pal Jane, who told me herself that she had her chat last Thursday). It all went quite agreeably, Val said she could see I was enthusiastic about the post and made it clear that the job consisted of simply sitting at a PC all day typing in info, but that suited me absolutely fine. In truth that's exactly the kind of work I've always been looking for.

As a large part of the job will be entering marriage and divorce information, she stressed the need for confidentiality at all times. If you get a celebrity wedding or divorce to enter, it's fine to talk about it to co-workers in the same department, but not to anybody outside that room.

She said she'd let us all know either this week or next who's made it through to the next stage of the selection process. Wish me luck.
