Dress rehearsal today. Dull, dull, dull for the first two hours, just leaving answerphone messages, listening to ringing tones and getting told people were out. Then I got a lady willing to answer for all her three adult family, and that was an hour and twenty minutes taken care of :)
We had Quality Street on the table today, but, it turned out, for a rather sad reason. On my way to my last health and safety break, Louise #1 and Carolyn called me over. Louise asked if she could take a photo of me "for Carole now she's left". I was shell-shocked - it was the first I'd heard that Carole had gone. Louise and Carolyn said it had all been sudden, Carole had been wanting to set up a sandwich business and had finally acquired the funding for it. They were a bit surprised I hadn't heard, but it turned out my coming off the Wednesday morning shift had meant I was missing all the goss. I hadn't even seen the farewell card everyone had signed for her. So Carolyn let me sign the one that was going to be from just her, Louise and Sue #1.
I managed a smile for Louise and her camera, but wandered out for my break in a sad mood. I liked Carole a lot, she and I always got on well - and I've got no-one to fancy now.
To end this entry on a happier note, I've just seen Natasha Danvers win the bronze medal in the 400 hurdles. I'm made up for her, after all the slings and arrows she's experienced in her career. I vividly remember her hitting a hurdle in the 2002 Commonwealth Games, and I was in Melbourne in 2006 to see her win the silver in the hurdles (and get her autograph on my programme) - and to see her lose the 4x400 relay team the gold medal by lining up out of order. Well done Tasha, you deserve it.
