If any more proof were needed that Vodafone customer care staff are doughnuts, this morning provided it.
I dutifully rang them at 9 am to say I'd spoken to one of their people last night who'd confirmed that the refund had not been paid and advised me to call today to be put through to the relevant department. The lady who answered put me on hold, so I got another five-minute blast of that bloody muzak, before coming on the line to tell me that...the relevant department had told her they'd paid the full refund of £54.33 into my bank account.
I told her firmly that it hadn't arrived there. She insisted "Well, it was paid." I repeated my assertion that I hadn't had it. She said they couldn't do anything without proof so I would have to take copies of my bank statements to a Vodafone shop to show them tangible proof that the money had not arrived in my account. I told her I don't have paper statements, I have e-statements. She suggested I contact my bank for assistance and said goodbye.
What a bunch of doughnuts.
I went into the telephone unit early to tell Sue #5 of my plight. She allowed me to access my bank account online via her PC and printed off the two pages of statements covering the period since the whole ballyhoo began.
So after work I went to the Vodafone shop in Fareham shopping mall and approached a lady named Jane, who was actually pleasant and friendly. When she called up my Vodafone account details on her screen she said that...the refund had been actioned today. She guessed my phone call this morning had spurred the customer care doughnuts into belated action. She said it should take 5 to 8 working days to come through, so I was to come back if the money still hadn't come in by Wednesday 20 August.
On my way back through the mall, as I passed the O2 shop I cast a wistful glance in its direction. Next May can't come quick enough.
In other news, the parents have decided to have new windows fitted throughout the house, and so we're being measured on Monday. That means all the clutter between my bed and my bedroom window has to be moved, and since there's too much stuff to find a temporary home for for the weekend, I'm forced to have a clearout. My hundreds of old FourFourTwos and When Saturday Comes are doomed. To be honest there's a lot of stuff there I need to get rid of; I just resent having to do the task tonight, without even a treat waiting at the end. I started the back-breaking work on getting home just after 4 pm, with sweat pouring off me the whole time; I'm now about a sixth done. I'm heading for Gosport Best now for fried chicken and chips and, most importantly, an ice cold Pepsi; will start again after watching the Olympic opening ceremony highlights show from 7 to 8. With any luck I'll get finished in time to have, oh, maybe three hours' sleep before the 3 Blondes' first race.
Have a great weekend, folks.
