Wore my TOFFS vintage white Oranje shirt to the office today, prompting Phil to reminisce about how he had a TOFFS England 1966 shirt numbered 19 and invite me to guess which player that represented. As Phil's a Southampton fan, my first guess was Alan Ball.

"No, he was 7."

My next try was Ian Callaghan.

"No, but it was one of the fringe players." I said I'd have to think about that one.

"Remember who I support."

I tried Mick Channon, only to be told he wasn't in the 1966 squad, and got it right with my next guess, Terry Paine.

"Mick Channon's not that old," Jan said to me as I sat in my booth, but Phil told her Channon was already playing for Saints by then.

Half an hour into the shift, after getting my second angry refuser in that short time, I was wishing I'd stayed in bed.

The mood was lightened when we all, in groups of eight, had to go down to the training suite for a training session that consisted of us simply watching a PowerPoint presentation on our computer screens, then following some simple instructions to input some stuff to do with our performance self-assessments. The computers were maddeningly slow-acting - Sue #5 and Pat went around comparing how much, or rather how little, of the blue bar had appeared on each of our screens - but when we were finally able to swing into action, I flew through the process without a hitch, earning me an affectionate touch on the shoulder from Mary.

Later, Terry, Paul and Dan were all up for a chat about Euro 2008. Terry and Dan, like Paula and Jan before them, want Portugal to win tonight but Paul'll be cheering Germany as he hates Cristiano Ronaldo. There's a bit of a feeling in the office that the Oranje are going to win the whole thing - here's hoping...
