I can't believe Andorra (a classic 'Eurovision' song), the Netherlands and Slovenia were all knocked out and those muppets from Azerbaijan got through. I'm starting to believe it is something to do with how many friends you've got on the European map.

I believe they were making an effort to split up "blocs" of voting friends, so UK and Ireland couldn't vote for each other, Greece couldn't vote for Cyprus, etc.

Yes, there was regional seeding in the semi-final draw with, as you say, Greece and Cyprus being kept apart.
