Sister Moon
Jul. 23rd, 2020 10:13 pmAnn's birthday. She'd warned me that Steve and Harrison might be planning a surprise. Sure enough, I arrived at her house this afternoon to drop her card off to find no-one around. She has no doorbell or knocker, so
I phoned her and she was at Queen Elizabeth Country Park. Steve and Harrison had taken her to Southsea for breakfast, then Steve had proposed a drive which ended up as a trip to the Country Park.
Was out for my walk this evening when Ann rang. She'd driven past me as I was walking, on her way to Stokes Bay where they were going to have a fish and chip picnic. She invited me to head down to the bay to meet them, so I changed course for the bay where it wasn't long before I spotted Ann, Steve and Harrison and their friends Luke and Kay and their daughter Emily and their hyperactive dog Betsy.
I sat on the grass a suitable distance away from the party, who were just breaking out their boxes of fish and chips. Ann introduced me to Kay, who she said was originally from Milton Keynes, so Kay and I talked for a while about places in MK we both knew - she agreed the MK Theatre is fantastic - although she moved away from there long before I arrived. Ann and I told Kay a few stories, like our trip to the 1998 Eurovision Song Contest in Birmingham, the time during my mother's mayoral year when we'd met Ann at the Sailing Club annual function, nights in various local watering holes, and the plethora of postcards I've sent Ann from my travels around the world. Before I headed for home, Ann said I'd have to come over for a drink in her garden soon.
