Went to the local British Legion last night to see Vicki Lambert, a singer whose show is in 2 parts - a Dusty Springfield tribute and cabaret. She came on at 9pm in full Dusty costume, wig and pale blue silk dress, and launched straight into I Only Want To Be With You. She was brilliant. With her warm North Derbyshire accent she kept up a flow of witty patter with the audience between songs, performing most of Dusty's best known numbers including Goin' Back. She introduced that one with "To my surprise, this is the Dusty song I get most requests for, I'm not sure why". When she named the song, a man in the group at the table next to me shouted "Because it's brilliant". Saying "There were some other great ladies around then too", she also included a couple of Sandie Shaw songs and a Cilla Black hit.

For the second half, Vicki reappeared in a sparkling silver dress with her own wavy hair flowing down. She looked stunning, and I wasn't the only one who thought so - when she introduced her husband Roger, who was on the deck playing her instrumental backing tracks, there were a couple of male boos, and during the second set, when she mentioned twice that she was staying in a motor home, each time a guy (different one each time) called out that he'd take her home with him for the night. Vicki opened the second half with It's In His Kiss and followed that with Gypsys, Tramps and Thieves. She had Cher's voice to a T! The rest of the set was mostly good time and singalong hits, mostly from the 60s, plus a couple of smoochy numbers. I mostly enjoyed the cabaret from my seat as I prefer, but of course her rendition of Da Doo Ron Ron got me on the dancefloor. She also included Adele's Skyfall, granted an audience request for Duffy's Mercy and ended the show with Valerie.

A great night's entertainment right here in the village.
