Remember When
Jan. 16th, 2014 08:11 pmAnother damn fine Top of the Pops 1979 episode. Rocky Sharpe and the Replays did a great version of Rama Lama Ding Dong then came Sally Oldfield with her charming winter hit Mirrors. Paul Evans' Hello This Is Joannie featured in full this time; Kid Jensen did acknowledge at the end "That's a sad record. Poor old Joannie."
Driver 67 was in the studio sitting at the wheel of a cab, with Control at a table with several phones. Still think Control has the best Wolverhampton accent ever to feature on a hit single (yes, his accent, considered the stereotypical 'Birmingham' one by many, is in fact a Wolverhampton one). I do like the Shadows' version of Don't Cry For Me Argentina, and it was interesting to hear Steve Allan's rendition of Together We Are Beautiful, a year before Fern Kinney had the hit (I still prefer her version).
