I'll Put You Together Again
Jan. 9th, 2014 08:18 pmAfter a manic day at work, and still suffering a touch of post-Christmas blues, what better antidote than the return of Top of the Pops as we begin 1979? A fine episode tonight, beginning with Paul Evans' Hello This Is Joannie playing over the chart rundown, and fading out before the song's tragic ending. Next was a young Billy Idol fronting Generation X.
We had the video of Ian Dury's Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick, a favourite track of mine back then when I was 7. It was poignant to see Brotherhood of Man unveiling their new single, a quite pleasant song Goodbye Goodbye, knowing that it flopped and that the group's heyday ended there.
Number 1 was YMCA. Of course as a 7-year-old I just thought it was a catchy pop song. Most amusing now to see the video of the Village People camping it up. Hot Chocolate provided a nice run-out with I'll Put You Together Again.
Got to go get an early night.
