Christmas Wrapping
Dec. 22nd, 2013 07:25 pmTrain to Gosport late on Friday night, to drop off pressies to the relatives yesterday. After doing the rounds, watched Soccer Saturday on the Sky TV at the parents'.
I've been having terrible trouble with my laptop. Since previous problems last month I'd been advised by Andy, a friend of the family and IT wiz, to install Advanced SystemCare. The down side of that was that Advanced SystemCare then prompted me to install Driver Booster, and Driver Booster proceeded to knock out my sound driver and fail to properly install the update - leaving my laptop mute. So (having already got rid of Driver Booster) I rang Andy again after Soccer Saturday and he advised me to uninstall the sound driver, then restart to have Windows automatically install one.
Watched first part of the Strictly final before meeting Ann at the Three Tuns for a pint and catch-up. We compared news of the last few months and had a heart-to-heart about our troubles. After we'd said our goodbyes I surfed onto my phone to bad news - lovely Susanna, despite leading the polls every previous week, had been pipped at the post by Mrs Crouch. As if her husband scoring against the Hawks in 2008 wasn't enough. Not to mention losing my Pogues hat :(
Early start this morning to haul my carcass back to Bedfordshire. Down to the Heath Inn for roast turkey, mulled wine and a mince pie (unfortunately they don't have Christmas pudding on the menu) then home to listen to the Christmas top 40 of 1984 on Replay and try uninstalling the sound driver and restarting. Alas, the automatic install failed.
Downloaded what appears to be the driver I need from Realtek. Going to relax with TOTP2 Christmas Special then have a go at installing...
