Back to dentist's to have an X-ray of the doomed wisdom tooth. The first attempt, taken with the biting plate in the conventional position between the neighbouring teeth, didn't give a good enough image, so he had to actually place the device between my wisdom teeth - only for my gag reflex to kick in and force me to spew it out. I apologised, the dentist handed me a tissue to wipe my mouth and asked me to wait out in the waiting room for a few minutes.
Back in the chair he took a couple more shots in the conventional position, but neither of those gave a good enough view of the doomed tooth. He spoke to me as little as was humanly possible, but did say that it was a problem that I "didn't like" having the device in the necessary place.
Now just one cotton-pickin' minute. Spitting the device out had not been my choice, it had been an involuntary reaction by my body. I tried to point this out and he did concede "it's not your fault", but because he still didn't have his X-ray, an air of sullenness continued to pervade the room. He did take an X-ray with a smaller device between my wisdom teeth, which I did manage to keep in, but from his comments to the nurse it sounded like that didn't give an adequate result either. He said he'd have to refer me for the extraction and say in my referral that he'd had difficulty taking an X-ray, and that they'd have to take one on the day. He sent me on my way with a leaflet about extraction under intravenous sedation and one about the dental centre in Southsea where it'll be done.
So this trip was a complete waste of time, and the sense that the dentist was holding me responsible for the wash-out persisted. Bus home feeling totally fed up.
