Let's Go Round Again
May. 28th, 2012 05:45 pmDentist after work for introductory check-up and to assess the damage done by the Starburst in Northampton. The other patient in the waiting room, a lady, hopped in ahead of me when I got called, because the nurse announced me as "Mrs" instead of "Mr" and she stepped forward amid the confusion. Damn my unisex first name. I would seriously consider using my unmistakably masculine second forename, except it is the first name of a cousin of mine on my father's side so that might lead to confusion.
Actually the delay worked in my favour, as I was relying on paying by credit card until the aforesaid lady asked whether she could, and was told "Cash or cheques only", so I beetled along to a nearby cash machine and was back in time to be called.
After giving my teeth an examination and reading out my fillings for the nurse (who seemed to be new at the job) to enter on the computer, the dentist asked whether my damaged wisdom teeth was causing me any pain. I replied no, and he said he was afraid it would have to come out and that I'd have to be sedated.
So my tooth has gone from just having a hole in it to being beyond salvation in 22 days. Thinking about it, the hole does seem to have got bigger during the last fortnight. The South-East Midlands have not been kind to me.
Before a date can be arranged, I have to return on Friday for X-rays. Something the receptionist said implied that I might be having the extraction in hospital rather than at the dental surgery.
