Mar. 12th, 2011 10:04 amWent over to the Westleigh last night to see Karen Barnett. Joy, they were still selling Hannibal's Nectar. Karen and I said hello before she went on. She turned in a pretty good set of pop standards from the 60s, 70s and 80s. Early on she asked for requests - "I'll do them if I can". As the advertising board said she sang 'The Carpenters, Shania Twain and Dolly Parton' I asked for You're Still The One and she promised to do it later. During the interval I checked with her when the show ended, so as to book my taxi, and she said 11pm. Outside a couple of blokes were having a fag, and one of them said that when he'd heard Karen singing a Carpenters number in the bar he'd thought Karen Carpenter was reborn! High praise indeed, but Ms Barnett does do a Karen Carpenter tribute act and is pretty good at capturing her voice.
In the end she over-ran. Thank goodness she sang You're Still The One at 10.54 pm, with my taxi waiting outside, and I had to wave to her as I made my way out to the cab as she launched into her next number...
