Hawks Ladies had a friendly at Southampton today, as a tune-up for next week's return to competitive football after the Christmas break. All fine and dandy, but whose bright idea was it to kick off at 10.30 in the morning?!?

After me, Charley, Sadie and Yzzy were first to arrive, and immediately scurried off in search of a shop. Good to see the girls again and exchange 'Happy New Year's, though we were missing Laura (on holiday), Kay (still on her Christmas break with Vicky up north) and one girl who shall remain nameless who no-showed as she was still feeling the effects of her New Year's drinks!

Southampton, leaders of a division two levels below ours, gave us a hard-fought game, and I was much impressed by their defender Amy Barnett - I'd love to have her at Hawks - but Hawks were on top most of the time and ran out 4-1 winners. The only black spot was Laura Streeter sustaining a bad ankle injury from an Amy Barnett challenge that had some of our party screaming blue murder but that Chris and I thought looked fair. Leon gloomily predicted Laura would be out for the rest of the season. On the bright side, Yzzy is well along the road to recovery now; physio Nicky says she'll be running soon.
