Woke up this morning with a blocked-up feeling in my ears. My momentary thought that it might have been a hangover from last night's Amstels didn't last; I knew straight away this was wax accumulation. It's years since I last suffered this problem, so there were no ear drops in the house and I had to go the whole working day with it.

Most of the ladies at the office made comments to me along the lines of "they did well to get to the final". When Liz came over to give me the £19.20 sweepstake jackpot, she guessed I must have had divided loyalties last night, while later Jane came up and said "At least they did better than England - mind you, they could hardly have done worse." I pointed out that England could have been worse, they could have gone out in the first phase; Jane replied "They might as well have done." Then in the kitchen, as we both made coffee, Lin began putting the England team to rights. We agreed that, with Hodgson gone to Liverpool, Harry Redknapp should get the England job.

To Boots in Fareham after work for some ear drops. Now, two and a half hours after putting them in, my hearing's a bit clearer...
