Jun. 19th, 2010 05:47 pmAs it was a quiet day the ladies of my section hopped off at lunch time yesterday, leaving me with Lin and Debbie for an hour. Lin is as much of a World Cup addict as me; she sits at her desk listening to the early matches on earphones, so kept me updated on Germany v Serbia. We both cheered when Serbia scored. Lin was beside herself with a mixture of delight and disbelief when Germany missed a penalty. Early in the second half she emitted an anguished groan; I took that as indicating a German equaliser, but it was just Serbia hitting the post.
On my way down to the car park I passed the TV lounge so dropped in to watch the closing minutes with the dozen or so people already there. Simon poked his head in for a moment, but didn't stop for the end. Serbia hung on for a brilliant victory; at the final whistle I made straight for my car and just got home for Slovenia v USA.
Went for a Chinese, watched England v Algeria through a Baltika-induced haze, stayed up till 1.30 watching TNA Slammiversary.
In need of exercise, walked down to the town this morning en route to Portsmouth (had to visit my bank, which has no Gosport branch) and hoofed home again from the ferry.
The Oranje looked like delivering another laboured performance during the first half against Japan, but Wesley Sneijder pulled out a magnificent strike to get us playing football for the rest of the match. C'mon Denmark.
