(no subject)
Apr. 5th, 2010 08:40 pmTo Westleigh Park this afternoon for Hawks v Weymouth. Caught up with the lovely Angie and Steph in the clubhouse pre-game, then Ade and Mark asked me about the fortunes of the ladies' team, and Ade asked me about the lesbian relationships within the squad, whether they affected the dynamics of the team, and whether I fancied any of the players. When I'd confessed that most of them are young enough to be my daughters, which tends to have a dampening effect on the chances of any passionate feelings developing, Ade enquired "Have you got a young lady at the moment?"
"Unfortunately, no."
"So there's room for a Hawkette in your life?"
"Indeed."
Inside the ground, the place was buzzing with the fall-out from Saturday's game at Basingstoke when our keeper Aaron Howe was sent off after sticking one on his own team-mate Jay Gasson. Clearly his future at Hawks was the subject of much speculation; someone was saying "Can we go with just one goalie for the rest of the season?" I suggested that, with Nathan Ashmore starting, we could put the youth team keeper on the subs' bench for the remaining games. That prompted the tongue-in-cheek query "What's the ladies' team goalie like?"
"Sadie? She's pretty useful," I said.
"Yes, but what's she like as a goalkeeper?" the fan replied with a grin, and Trev pointed out "He'll never get to find out what she's like in other respects." Realising what Trev was driving at, the fan said to me "You could have a sex change."
Nathan started, though the errant Aaron was on the bench. Nathan played a blinder as we won 3-1 with a magnificent hat-trick from Muzzy. And E*******h lost 1-0 at home to Woking, although Trev said this was perhaps one game when we should have wanted the beasts to win as Woking are a more serious rival to our faint chances of a play-off place. Hitchin Geordie was on broadcasting duty so we got the chance to catch up and say "have a nice summer" as he's not likely to be back at WLP again this season.
Home just in time to see the Rajasthan Royals win a cliff-hanger finish.
