There's only one Alban Jusufi!
Mar. 20th, 2010 06:45 pmTo the Heron, whose telly was showing my IPL team Rajasthan Royals, for pre-match nosh and meet up with Malc and Co. We discussed the sticky point of who was going to stand in for the suspended Muzzy Tiryaki and agreed we'd like to see George Lopes or Alban Jusufi given a proper chance. When we all made the move to the ground, I joined Dick and Lauren for a quick pre-match chat in the bar.
Hitchin Geordie was back on duty today, wearing two hats - he was covering the game for both Radio Solent and Radio Surrey, though at least he had a co-summariser for the latter. With a heavy pitch, the game wasn't a classic. Both teams struggled to create, and Manny Williams aggravated an injury he'd been carrying and came off at half time. In the second half Wes Fogden, Academy lad Liam Sewell and our new signing Bobby Hopkinson all created chances, but everyone in the crowd had settled for 0-0...till in the final minute Alban Jusufi, who'd only just come on as sub, hammered a Hopkinson free kick in off the post.
Total pandemonium in the stand where I was, and behind the goal. Cue a rousing rendition of Under The Moon Of Love. On our way out of the ground, Lee celebrated like an absolute loon, as he's also a Portsmouth fan and they too had scored a late winner. Even those of us around him who have little time for Pompey couldn't begrudge him his joy - it was that kind of day. Managed to bag a lift to Portsmouth Harbour.
