When you've worked a nine hour day, most of it looking up place names and copying and pasting them on a spreadsheet, the last thing you need is 45 minutes standing at a bus stop in embryonic snow. Which is exactly what I got because the 4.18 bus simply didn't show up.

The bus that stops at our office is on one of the least frequently served routes on the First Hampshire network, just one bus every 45 to 60 minutes, and the 4.18 is probably the one bus on our route that carries the most people. So even if they were a driver down or some other contingency, choosing that particular bus and that particular route as the one to be cancelled was an act of signally poor judgement.

Just enough time to pop home for my season ticket and head over to a chilly Westleigh Park for Hawks v Bishop's Stortford. We had the pleasure of Hitchin Geordie's company tonight but he wasn't broadcasting much, just doing a little summary once or twice and having a quick chat near the end with Caroline Barker on Radio London's non league show. We thought it was going to be one of those nights when Aaron Howe gave away a penalty on the half hour and Stortford scored. The one thing that caused some amusement in the stand was a message flashing across the scoreboard 'Shed For Sale' with the phone number of E*******h FC (this after our chant of 'I've got a shed that's better than that' at the derby made national news on the BBC's Chants of the Week webpage).

But after the break Manny Williams got an equaliser and then, just after some of us were suggesting Steve Walker should be substituted to make way for Luke Medley, Walker streaked down the wing, rounded a defender and fired home to give us the lead. Stortford gave us a few brown trouser moments but Hawks, revitalised by the goals, held out for three more points to keep the play-off pipe dream alive.

Home to get just a few hours' kip before getting up at 4.30 again this morning...
