Nov. 21st, 2009 07:28 pmMust stop late night reading on the eve of 9 am driving lessons. Like two weeks ago I sat up past one this morning buried in a book, and like two weeks ago a lumpy lesson resulted, though I did pull off an acceptable turn in the road - though I feathertouched the kerb I immediately tweaked the steering to right my direction and completed the turn in the right place, and Peter said that would have been acceptable to most examiners. Twenty minutes from the end when I absolutely hammered down the brake and made an unsightly noise on an emergency stop, patience erosion began to set in, but I managed not to show any signs of it. Peter remains upbeat about my prospects in my test, reckoning we've got plenty of time to iron out the wrinkles.
To a wet soggy Cams Alders in the afternoon for Fareham Town v Lymington Town. The first half was deathly dull, and just at the beginning of the second the heavens opened and torrential rain fell for the rest of the afternoon. But I won the 50-50 draw, scooping £24.50, and, just as the game was looking like petering out into a bore 0-0, in the dying minutes Dan Hayes headed home a cross to give Town the points. A minute later Torr Spicer had a golden opportunity to add a second, given the ball in an empty goalmouth, but blasted wide.
Into the clubhouse for a post-match Magners. To round off a glorious afternoon, East Stirlingshire had won 2-1 at Stranraer and, after the vidiprinter kept us waiting ages for the Hawks' result, finally it appeared - Thurrock 1 Havant & W 4. My punch to the air and shout of "Yes! C'mon the Hawks" drew a couple of curious glances.
Made getting drenched on the way back to the bus stop worthwhile.
Jade's out with a torn ligament :( Such a shame to see her journey end that way.
I guess I can now watch Harry Hill's TV Burp without waiting for the Sunday repeat...
