Aug. 3rd, 2009 06:12 pmFirst thing this morning they started me on another aspect of the job, correcting typing mistakes in existing cause-of-death records. Simon sat with me for an hour while I corrected a batch; early on he'd told me you have to press a key to turn the screen red before you can edit a case. I forgot a few times and tried to edit with the screen grey, so Simon had to keep saying "In the red". At the end of the hour he said I'd be doing just one batch of those a day to begin with, so for the rest of the time I was back on my usual stuff.
I think it might have been the birthday of Mike, who works up the other end, as at the beginning of the day we heard a chorus of Happy Birthday To You (monkey version) emanating from his end of the office, and at around 11 am he came up to me to say there were cakes on offer on a table towards his patch.
Home to watch the Test Match drift towards the inevitable draw. Now pray for rain during the remaining two :)
