May. 26th, 2009 04:28 pmAs I expected, it took the return of Sue #5 today to get the wheels moving towards fixing my transfer date. When I arrived at the unit she said my new department were keen for me to start as soon as possible, so she agreed to try and get me moved from next Monday. She wasn't able to pursue it today, as the office was closed with the exception of the telephone unit - we were all alone in the building today apart from some builders - but she promised to get on the case first thing tomorrow.
I still got stopped by plenty of ladies who'd only just heard the news congratulating me. During my early health and safety breaks, in preparation for my going full-time I had to get on the phone to re-arrange driving lessons, cancel my Gosport blood donation appointment (we have donation sessions at the office) and register with a dentist nearer my workplace. Of course I chose the Westleigh Dental Practice, even though it seems none of the dentists there are Hawks after all and their logo, which looked blue and yellow in the night, is really purple and yellow. In cancelling my planned check-up in a fortnight's time with the NHS practice in Gosport, I managed to piss off the receptionist there, who had trouble understanding me - either a bad phone line or she wasn't a native English speaker. I was sorry to leave Anna, but it just wouldn't be practical to take two buses from work to Gosport, and two back again, whenever I go to the dentist's.
At Fareham bus station, there was no sign of the scheduled Gosport buses. A notice pasted to the timetable explained that there were roadworks at Brockhurst roundabout that were playing havoc with the bus service. So when the 34, that doesn't go via the roundabout, arrived I hopped on. Unfortunately that bus goes all round the houses, and it went smack into a traffic jam on the way out of Fareham then hit another little jam going along Privett Road. A journey that usually takes me about half an hour lasted nearly an hour.
