Apr. 25th, 2009 06:10 pmHawks' last game of the season at home to E*******h. All very civilised in the clubhouse before the match, with Hawks fans and Spitefires happily drinking side by side with no hint of trouble.
During the lead-up to the game the Academy and Ladies' teams were paraded on the pitch to allow the crowd to applaud them for their successes this season. Shame only seven of the Ladies' squad were there, but it was nice to have recognition from the club.
E*******h were already assured of a play-off place and couldn't win the title, so their fans had come to have a party, though they were also hoping for a win to assure them of second spot. As for Hawks, we simply hoped we'd win to end our season on a happy note and piss on their party. It has to be said that their fans were in full voice all game, while the Hawk army behind the goal contented themselves with the odd chorus of 'You don't get me, I'm Havant and 'Looville' and ''Looville, we are the Havant and 'Ville', and abusing Judas Jordan, Binman Taggart and Byles.
The match was fast paced and even. Craig Watkins put Hawks one up after twenty minutes with a well taken goal, but late in the first half E*******h equalised with an admittedly beautiful curling strike from thirty yards out. In the 77th minute sub Steve Walker sent the Hawk fans into raptures when he tapped home a Craig cross, but five minutes from full time the Beasts equalised and it ended 2-2. There was some cheering news in the stand : the Radio Solent reporter revealed that Hampton & Richmond had won 3-0, denying the Spitefires second place.
And as I made my way down the steps there was a cheering sight to see : Angie and Steph, both dolled up to the nines, looking very sweet and lovely, said friendly hellos to me and we wished each other a nice summer. Then they made their way into the executive lounge at the top of the stand. It's all right for some.
