Mar. 24th, 2009 06:04 pmDriving lesson. Did a decent turn in the road, except when I moved away at the end, a car was coming up right behind me quicker than I thought, and a couple of OK bay parks. My first go at a parallel park hit the kerb, but I did it OK second try. Was going all right on reversing round a corner until I put too much right-steering on trying to straighten up after the bend and zig-zagged the rest of the way. Peter said my main problem with open road driving was wavering concentration and needing to think ahead better, and also reckoned I need to speed up when coming out of turns and junctions. Unfortunately I mounted the kerb twice in the last half-hour - worse, it was on the same corner both times - and coming out of one junction, while taking the clutch up to the bite, something inexplicably impelled me to hammer on the gas, causing the clutch friction to fill the car with a burning smell. Peter was a tad irritable from then on, and my driving started to go hit and miss :(
